I arrived in Maui for the first time at night and the next morning when I opened the curtains (oceanfront), I thought I was in Heaven! Colors of the water were so many shades of blue and varieties of beautiful flowers were amazing! I’m a teacher on the mainland so absolutely cannot afford to live in the most heavenly place I’ve seen! ❤

Housing is overpriced. Don't get your money's worth.😅

I think you can tiny home (shed) build anything under or exactly 200sq ft as long as it’s on blocks or wheels. The problem with tiny homes any bigger is most property’s (big or small) have rights to one home with a possibility of two. It’s more cost effective for resale with a 2 bedroom as our prices are ridiculously high for any real dwelling. Also very tiny plots of land are very hard to come by. Most plots start around 300k in Kaua’i. I’m trying to build a 12x16 shed with solar and rain catchment. All for less than 30k and around 40k furnished.

Good poin. I like trader joe and quality grocery store. Whish they are there. At least there are costco. Also I love the fresh air and beautiful beaches in HI. Being healthy is saving a lit of money. I love to enjoy my life in the paradise soon.

I’m white.. I worked at a farm in Hawaii, operated by Hawaiians… when I arrived here from the mainland, people told me the “locals” are racist against white people… I got a job working on a farm, operated by Hawaiians… soon after, I asked my manager if Hawaii is racist against white people… my manager replied, “yes”… I told my manager that racism is frowned upon, on the mainland… my (Hawaiian) manager explained to me that, in the 60’s when the Civil Rights Movement took place on the mainland, Hawaii still identified… as it’s own country (and, I might add, rightly so. Hawaii was stolen, by the USA.. there are videos on RUclips that explain how this went down… it has to do with the “Dole” pineapple company… if you want further information on this topic, watch the videos)… and, since Hawaii identified as it’s own country, the Civil Rights Movement that was taking place in the USA had no effect on Hawaii… life continued, as it always had… meaning: the ENTIRE WORLD, was racist in the years prior to the Civil Rights Movement… so, in Hawaii, nothing changed… this explanation made sense to me, so I thanked my manager for the explanation… I’m a REALIST… I wasn’t asking to have my ears tickled… I live and work in Hawaii, so I need to understand the reality of things… it was also explained to me soon after arriving in Hawaii, that the Hawaiians have a right to be angry, considering the way the USA stole their land from them… my personal opinion is, yeah… that’s right… the Hawaiians have a right to be angry, considering the way the USA stole their land from them… here’s something you need to understand, if you REALLY want to understand Hawaiians… HAWAIIANS LOVE THEIR LAND, HAWAIIANS LOVE HAWAII… also, as a white man, another sad reality I’ve personally witnessed is that… ABSOLUTELY, YES… there are some real nut-job, whacky, (what’s another word for: EVIL, that I can use??) WHITE PEOPLE, who live here… and, who the “locals” have to be around every, single day, as they work on their jobs, and shop on… THEIR ISLANDS.

I got robbed in Hawaii and had NO ID to go home.. my passport, drivers license, credit card, phone, waa taken by Micronesia scumbags . The Hawaii people took me in, allowed me to use thier phone and got me to the airport...

Mahalo! I maintain my health by walking, running outdoors, and yoga! Now living in Hawaii in a month, I will be able to do those activities more with the constantly warm weather, and I can do yoga outdoors!! I'm going to get into snorkeling, love being with the fish and honu!!

I have been to many places in the continental USA and Canada. None truly impressed me more than my hometown (North of Seattle). Then I went to Hawaii (Oahu), I was so surprised how fresh, clean, and beautiful the scenery was. I can see I am happy retiring there one day 😊

best place to be to be homeless because of the weather and the beach you can go to you're still going to have a job but you're just not going to be able to afford a place to live so you're going to have to live in your car or somewhere else in a tent somewhere but if you if you have a career or a job or anything they don't pay you enough so you're going to be homeless you might as well be in Hawaii or California

As someone who lived in Tampa Bay, Florida for 13 years, I can definitely confirm all that’s been said here. Also I recently visited Oahu and I definitely rather expensive but nicer people with a sense of community than cheap but down right rude and unfriendly. Oh, and let’s not forget the possibility of sinkholes in your home; a very common issue there. Again, Florida…thanks but no thanks. Hawaii anytime of the day!! Much Aloha!!❤❤❤

I just got back from 2 weeks in Grand Cayman, (south of Cuba) and it is clean and beautiful with friendly people, but I never used the Lanai at my hotel once. Just too hot and humid, even at night…..and that was in late February/early March. I am told from May to early October the humidity is even worse. That is why it is much cheaper to go there in the summer, plus the threat of tropical storms/hurricanes. Also, the major hotels/resorts are not open air like in Hawaii for the same reason, just too hot and sticky for the guests and staff.

Question Peter, can you sell a house in California and afford to move to Hawaii?

I was born in Florida moved to Hawaii it’s a hot swamp that’s completely flat and people are rude and it’s become very expensive. Hawaii is far more beautiful and nicer people. Granted lower taxes in Florida and maybe slightly less on food that’s about it
